BUNDALEER NORTH FIRE CONTINUES TO BURN

17/01/2013

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is battling a fire in Bundaleer North which has burnt more than 1200 hectares since yesterday afternoon.

200 firefighters with 40 tankers, supported by three fixed wing bombers and 50 farm fire units are fighting the fire, which is now burning through the Bundaleer Forest.

CFS State Coordinator, Mark Thomason, said CFS personnel are making a concerted effort to establish control lines around the perimeter of the fire before the forecasted wind change expected late this evening.

"The expected wind change will potentially push the fire in an easterly direction towards some farming communities which is of concern," Mr Thomason said.

"Our crews have been working diligently on this fire since late last night and we're hoping that their efforts will pay off."

People in the area are reminded that smoke may create hazardous conditions and reduce visibility on roads.

Smoke has extended beyond the Clare and Gilbert Valley regions and may also be visible further south in towns including Auburn, Sevenhill, Mallala, Port Wakefield, Blyth, Waterloo and Mintaro.
