POULTRY FARM FIRE NOT SUSPICIOUS
07/07/2014
Fire investigators have ruled out suspicious circumstances as the cause of a fire at a poultry farm, north of Port Wakefield this morning.
CFS crews were called to the fire on Wheat Road at Beaufort just after 6 am.
Despite their efforts, a large shed was destroyed with damage estimated at around $1 million but there were no chickens inside.
About 30 firefighters from six CFS Brigades took about one hour to bring the blaze under control.
Fire cause investigators say that it started after a hay-bale self-combusted while it was being manually fed into a shredder.
The shed was free of any livestock although it had the capacity to house up to 40,000 chickens.
