The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) has declared the Wirrabara Forest fire in the State?s Mid North ?contained?.

The Wirrabara Forest fire in the State?s Mid North is expected to generate thick and potentially hazardous smoke for the next few days.

The Wirrabara Forest fire is generating thick and hazardous smoke as it continues to burn slowly in a southerly direction in isolated and inaccessible terrain about 25 kilometres north-east of Port Pirie.

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is continuing its efforts to contain a fire which has been burning since Tuesday in the Wirrabara Forest Reserve about 25 kilometres north-west of Port Pirie.

Subject to suitable weather conditions, SA Water will undertake a prescribed burn in the Mount Bold Reservoir Reserve tomorrow, Thursday 10 May 2012.

CFS ADVISES THAT A FIRE IS BURNING 8 KMS SOUTH WEST OF WIRRABARA, IN THE SOUTHERN FLINDERS RANGES. AT THIS TIME THERE IS NO RISK TO PROPERTY OR LIFE, HOWEVER THE FIRE IS STILL BURNING FREELY ON THE EDGE OF THE WIRRABARA FOREST AND SURROUNDING AREAS. CFS, DENR AND FORESTRY SA FIREFIGHTERS ARE ATTENDING TO THIS FIRE. THIS FIRE IS CREATING A LOT OF SMOKE, AND DRIVERS IN THE AREA ARE ASKED TO DRIVE TO THE CONDITIONS. WALKERS ON THE HEYSEN AND MAWSON TRAILS ARE ADVISED NOT TO ENTER THESE AREAS AT THIS TIME.
