Truck fire in Olympic Dam - 26 February 2025
Just before midday today, the CFS responded to a truck fire in Olympic Dam, approximately 560 km north of Adelaide.
Three CFS trucks with approximately 12 firefighters responded to a triple trailer truck fire carrying diesel on Borefield Road and were supported by members of the Olympic Dam Emergency Services, SA Police and SA Ambulance service.
The quick-thinking truck driver managed to detach the prime mover prior to CFS arrival, with crews then effectively extinguishing the fire impacting upon the dolly and first two trailers of the truck. Fortunately, this quick and efficient response prevented the fire from impacting upon the contents of the trailer load. Structural damage to the truck is estimated at $150,000.
Borefield Road will likely be closed for up to 24 hours for the fuel to be decanted from the truck and for repairs to be made to the road.
