Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings for Yorke Peninsula and Eastern Eyre Peninsula
15/11/2024
The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is urging South Australians to be vigilant this weekend with the first significant fire danger weather for the season predicted for Saturday.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued Catastrophic fire danger ratings for Yorke Peninsula and Eastern Eyre Peninsula, and Extreme ratings for West Coast, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Flinders, Mid North, Mount Lofty Ranges, Riverland, Murrayland, and Upper South East on Saturday, meaning the risk of fire danger is considerable in these areas.
CFS Chief Officer AFSM, Brett Loughlin, said the public should be aware of weather conditions and mindful of the activities they undertake today and tomorrow.
"I urge residents to check any recent private burn-offs today and tomorrow to ensure they are completely extinguished and cold," Chief Officer Loughlin said.
"We ask the public to support us by refraining from engaging in risky activities this weekend, during what are set to be hazardous fire conditions."
"We also urge anyone travelling in country areas to know their risk by checking the fire danger ratings in the district they are moving in or through and to stay alert and informed of fires in the area."
The Fire Danger Season is now in place across South Australia and the recent fire in Penfield in Adelaide's north earlier this month was a timely reminder of the need for people to understand their responsibilities to understand the rules and regulations that apply during Fire Danger Season to help keep themselves and their communities safe.
The CFS encourages everyone to use multiple forms of information, including installing the Alert SA app on their mobile device, ABC radio and the CFS website.
Ensure that Watch Zones are set up, and push notifications are enabled on their devices Alert SA settings so they are notified of any bushfires or warning messages within their Watch Zone.
