If you are at home

  • If you are located within the warning area, you should immediately move inside your home or the nearest building. People who shelter indoors are much safer than those people who remain outside.
  • Bring your pets inside.
  • Close windows, doors, and air vents (this may only assist with reduced exposure for hours or a few days, as outside air will eventually enter the home). The quicker you can close doors and windows the better protected you will be.
  • Use appropriate air conditioner settings in the home and vehicles to prevent outside air coming in.
  • Close internal doors to reduce air flow.
  • If you can, move to a room with no windows and take your family and pets, emergency kit with food and water suppliers and your mobile phone and charger.
  • Once you are in your safe room, shut the door and seal areas where air can get in. Use wet towels, wet newspaper or plastic and duct tape.

If you are travelling

  • If you are away from home, do not return.
  • If you are currently driving in the warning area, close the windows and vents in your vehicle and turn off the air conditioning. Immediately leave the warning area.
