Incident Update
ISSUED FOR AMATA Grass Fire
A large grass fire was reported to the SA Country Fire Service at 06:30pm on Tuesday 15th March 2023. The fire has since burnt 12,800 hectares of native grasslands and Mulga bush 30km to the North East of Amata Community.
CFS currently has one fire truck providing asset protection to the Wanarkula homeland and are patrolling the fire edge to prevent it from crossing the tracks and roads. There have been no losses to any assets or infrastructure.
Road hazards-
There are currently no road closures in place.
People using the Gunbarrel HWY between Amata and the NT border are advised to proceed with caution as smoke and fire activity may be visible to motorists along the roadway. You should only proceed if safe to do so.
