ISSUED FOR ANANGU PITJANTJATJARA YANKUNYTJATJARA (APY)

Since Wednesday evening (1st of November 2023) there has been a significant amount of dry lightning pass through the North West Pastoral Area. This has been predominantly within the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, causing multiple fires to ignite, of which there are currently 16 separate fires burning. The fires extend from the Western Australian border through to Pukatja (Ernabella), over a 300km stretch.

Multiple warning messages have been issued for a number of separate communities. Refer to the CFS Website cfs.sa.gov.au for the most up to date warning information.

The SA Country Fire Service crews have been actively monitoring, patrolling and conducting back burn operations, ensuring that affected communities are protected. Communities within the vicinity of these fires have fire breaks surrounding them and are being advised to stay within the prescribed bush fire safer places.

Members of the public traveling through the APY lands need to remain vigilant and enact their bush fire survival plans should the current situation change.

The SA CFS are currently being supported by the South Australia Police (SAPOL), Regional Anangu Services Aboriginal Corporation (RASAC) and APY Land Management (APYLM).
