Auburn grass fire

The CFS is responding to a grass fire near Auburn, approximately 25 kilometres south of Clare in the Clare Valley, South Australia.

A quick response from CFS firefighters on 18 trucks, supported by 5 aircraft including waterbombers and observational aircraft and multiple Farm Fire Units have successfully halted the spread of a fast moving grass fire at 2.6 hectares burning under extreme conditions and saving nearby properties.

The fire was caused by an accidental motorhome vehicle fire starting along the Horrocks Highway and jumped the road extending into roadside vegetation and stubble paddocks causing spot fires up to 400 metres ahead of the main front and threatening local properties.

Crews will continue working to extinguish this fire into this afternoon. With heightened fire weather expected today and into early next week, firefighters will continue attending this fire until it is deemed safe.

CFS firefighters are being supported by SAPOL at this incident. Emergency services may be working on and around roads in the area, and motorists are advised to stay away. If you need to travel on roads in the area, please take care and drive to the local conditions. Continue to monitor at: https://traffic.sa.gov.au/
