Grass fire at Blackford, Avenue Range and Lucindale
ISSUED FOR BLACKFORD
SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is currently in attendance at a grass fire in the Blackford, Avenue Range and Lucindale areas in the Lower South East of South Australia. The fire is now contained however there is a current Bushfire Advice Message is in place, due to winds expected to increase this afternoon.
The fire has impacted the communities of Avenue Range, Blackford and Lucindale with several structures confirmed lost or substantially damaged.
The fire has burnt more than 14,074ha of grass and scrub, with significant losses to fencing and livestock. Rapid Damage Assessment teams are currently checking structures in the fire affected areas to determine losses and damages.
The fire started on private land, and the cause is not suspicious.
CFS and Department of Environment and Water (DEW) have 20 fire trucks and 100 firefighters currently on the fireground. The local forestry companies are assisting with 10 fire trucks and personnel. Firefighters are continuing to put pockets of fire out and are concentrating on strengthening containment lines.
The Lucindale Lions club are accepting cash donations to assist those families that have been impacted by the fire. To donate please contact the Lucindale Post Office on 08 8766 2020.
Department of Primary Industry SA (PIRSA) teams are in the fire affected area assessing stock losses and helping locals with injured stock. If you need assistance or information regarding livestock please call 1800 255 556.
The Naracoorte Lucindale Council are assisting with removal and disposal of deceased livestock and native animals.
Donations of stock feed and hay are being accepted at Yakka Park in Lucindale by the Lucindale Lions Club for distribution to local farmers. If you have stock feed or hay to donate please contact Peter Corrigan on 0418 394 980.
South Australian Power Networks (SAPN-ETSA) is inspecting and repairing electrical infrastructure. Please stay well away from any down power lines until SAPN have completed repairs. If you have downed power lines on your property please phone 13 13 66.
The South East Drainage Board have people inspecting the drains, bridges and crossings within the fire area.
Although most roads through the area are open, please refer to the traffic.sa.gov.au for updates as these are changing with conditions. If you are driving through this area you should slow down and be aware of fallen trees, injured or deceased livestock and wildlife that may be on the roads. Fences along the roads are not secure and stock may still be roaming.
