CALPERUM

Calperum fire (formerly known as Gluepot fire)

Issued for CALPERUM in the Riverland.

Following a series of lightning strikes across Gluepot, Calperum Station and Danggali Reserve, CFS and National Parks and Wildlife Services SA firefighters are continuing to patrol a fireground at Calperum, approximately 70km NW of Renmark.

Fire activity has reduced and the fire has now been declared contained at 4,200 hectares. Currently there is no risk to the community.

CFS and National Parks and Wildlife Services SA firefighters will continue to attend the fireground for the next few days to monitor for flare-ups.

Heavy machinery has been utilised to establish control lines around the fire.

Firefighters have worked over the past three days to control the fire and protect the natural habitat of the Black-eared Miner and Mallee Striated Grasswren, two endangered bird species which reside within the area.

National Parks and Wildlife Services SA has assessed the Natural Values within the fire area, in consultation with the landholder, to ensure methods used to control the fire took into consideration the impact on the environment.

The fire did not impact the Gluepot Reserve, Danggali Conservation Park or Chowilla Regional Reserve..
