Eyre Highway Truck Fire 16/02/2023

ISSUED FOR The Eyre Highway Approximately 25km West of Ceduna

At approximately 04:30am CFS crews were responded to reports of a truck fire on the Eyre Highway approximately 25km West of Ceduna.

Upon arrival fire fighters found a B-Double set of trailers fully alight and scrub alight on both sides of the highway. The prime mover was able to be disconnected from the trailers and there are no reports of any injuries.

Approximately 25 fire fighters in 5 CFS trucks, 1 command vehicle and 1 bulk water carrier are currently on scene and being supported by Farm Fire Units, SA Police and Contractors.

The vehicle fire and scrub fire have now been contained. Crews will work into the morning to fully extinguish both the truck trailers and the surrounding scrub.

There are currently traffic restrictions on the Eyre Highway and heavy delays can be expected. A large amount of smoke is affecting visibility in the area. Motorists passing through are advised to keep all windows closed and set their air conditioners to recirculate. The public is asked to avoid the area if possible
