Incident Update

ISSUED FOR CHERRY GARDENS

Issued for CHERRY GARDENS FIRE near Longwood, Mylor, Biggs Flat, Scott Creek, Chapel Hill, Cherry Gardens and Mount Bold in the Mount Lofty Ranges.

A warning message remains current for this fire.

More than 400 firefighters are working to contain the fire burning in the Adelaide Hills. More than 2700 hectares of scrub and grasslands have been burnt.

Current weather conditions have eased reducing fire activity across much of the fireground, however the fire is still active on the north eastern and south western edges.

Changing weather conditions may cause the fire to burn for a number of days and in several directions.

Some roads will remain closed while they are being assessed. For safety reasons, residents are asked not to enter areas with road closures in place. A current list of road closures can be found at traffic.sa.gov.au.

Residents throughout the Adelaide Hills and in parts of the metropolitan area will continue to see smoke. The community is asked to take care on the roads as visibility will be reduced, while at home close all windows and doors and stay inside.

Whilst rain is forecast to fall on the fireground today, it is unlikely to be enough to put the fire out and gusts associated with approaching rain and thunderstorms may increase fire behaviour. The community is asked to remain alert to the current conditions.

There are many emergency services working in the area including CFS, MFS, DEW, SA Forestry, SA Police, SA Ambulance Service, SES and heavy plant.
The Rapid Damage Assessment team remains on scene assessing the level of impact.

DEW is coordinating support for the protection of endangered species of Flora and Fauna within the conservation parks and reserves including species of orchid, southern brown bandicoot and chestnut rumped heath wren.

Advice and support is available to affected community members at the Mount Barker oval and football club, Howard Lane, Mount Barker with Red Cross in attendance.
