Incident Update

ISSUED FOR CHERRY GARDENS

Firefighters from CFS, DEW and Forestry SA are again actively working on the fireground ensuring that no log is left unturned in efforts to make the fireground safe.

With five days having passed since the fire began, crews have worked tirelessly across the fireground and will do so for many days to come.

The focus continues to be on identification of hot spot's especially around the perimeter of the fire. With warmer weather, the CFS expects to see some smoke popping out from tree roots that have been burning underground, tree's candling, where the internal structure of the tree is burning but the outside remains intact and logs, stumps and trees re-ignite.

Fire fighters with thermal imaging camera's are again active on the fireground assessing where crews need to focus efforts for hot spot management.

Remote area firefighting teams utilising long hose lays, portable pumps and hand tools are working in the difficult to reach areas and will again be supported by a helicopter with a bucketing systems as well as a helicopter monitoring operations and gathering intelligence.

28 arborist crews will be concentrating assessment operations towards Mylor in the north east and Scott Creek in the south west. Tree felling operations will also be done in other areas where dangerous trees are identified.

As road closures ease in the area we are asking the community to refrain from entering the area and leave the roads to be accessed by emergency services, essential services and local traffic only.

If you come across injured animals including wildlife please only call SAVEM (South Australian Veterinary Emergency Management) on 0477 055 233 to seek assistance as the coordinating agency for injured animals during emergencies.
