Incident Update
ISSUED FOR CHERRY GARDENS
Despite today's slightly elevated weather we saw a consistent level of flare ups occurring across the fireground and all were quickly extinguished by ground crews with support from the air. In total 41,000 litres of water from 41 loads was strategically dropped from the helicopter bucketing system, which is a slight decrease from yesterday.
Continued operations to assess for hot spots and extinguish areas of smouldering trees, logs and stumps were undertaken by ground crews working on the perimeter of the fire.
CFS aviation resources have again provided much needed aerial intelligence to the Incident Management Team which feeds directly into the operational response and forward planning.
As well as assisting in firefighting operations, DEW crews have also been undertaking assessments in Scott Creek Conservation Park to determine the extent of damage to park infrastructure.
SA Water Reservoir maintenance crews have been utilising small plant to assist with clearing access tracks around the reservoir.
Arborists have continued with assessments and tree felling as part of the response from Local Government.
It is important for the community to understand that whilst we are in the later stages of the firefight, we still have a very active fireground, a continual risk of flare ups and a significant amount of essential and support services working to return the area to a safe state.
For this reason we continue to ask people not to enter these fire affected areas for their safety and the safety of those working in the area.
Much of the community living within the fire affected area have now returned home and we ask those living and working within this area and surrounding areas to remain vigilant. If you see columns of smoke or flames that are unattended on the fireground please call Triple Zero (000).
For injured animal response please call SAVEM on 0477 055 233.
