Coles Fire Update
ISSUED FOR COLES
CFS remains in attendance at the Coles fire near Lucindale in the state's lower southeast. More than 165 firefighters have been working to halt the spread of the fire with the assistance of heavy plant machinery, aerial firefighting resources, Farm Fire Units, and forest industry crews (including, PF Olsen Crews and Australian Bluegum Plantations).
The fire has broken out on the south eastern corner and smoke will continue to be seen and smelt by residents in the areas to the south, southwest and west of the fire. The fire continues to burn in plantation, including areas known as bluegum slash consisting of old stumps and debris remaining on the ground, and surrounding grassland.
Further, crews have been brought in today to continue working along the fire's perimeter and to actively fight any areas that may flare up during the day. An increase in temperature and wind over the next two days is expected, which could hinder the efforts of crews on the ground.
The community is reminded to stay vigilant and monitor conditions throughout the next few days as its expected that the conditions will continuously change.
The following roads have been closed, Callendale Road from Konetta Road, Lucindale Road and Clay Wells Road, Clay Wells and Diagonal Roads, Calendale and Elad Roads, Ellison's Road to Callendale Rd and Spence Road is only accessible to bona fide residents, emergency services and relief agencies.
SA Police, SA Ambulance and Salvation Army are also in attendance.
