INCIDENT UPDATE

ISSUED FOR COLES (NEAR LUCINDALE IN THE LOWER SOUTH EAST)

Approximately 180 volunteer firefighters from across South Australia and Victoria remain on the Coles fireground near Lucindale in the state's lower southeast.

The fire continues to burn freely within control lines. An additional 50 incident management staff and volunteers are working to support operations across Mt Gambier, Naracoorte and Lucindale. Firefighters have been continuing to work throughout the day in strengthening control lines and extinguishing hot spots in order to contain the fire within its current perimeter.

The Coles fire is burning in blue gum plantations, scrub, and grassland and the efforts of the CFS firefighters have prevented the loss of homes and properties.

CFS firefighters are working alongside numerous agencies including NPWSSA, Victoria's CFA, Farm Fire Units, and forest industry crews.

In addition, SA Police, SES, St John SA and the Salvation Army continue to provide support to fire fighters and the community.

Aerial firefighting resources have remained on standby to assist the efforts on the ground throughout the day where required.

Smoke will continue to blow across the area and will be seen and smelt by residents across the Lower South East. If you are impacted by smoke, close your doors and windows, and stay inside.

The community is reminded to monitor conditions throughout the next few days as conditions are expected to change continuously.

The CFS is continuing to provide support to the families, volunteers and staff who were impacted by the tragic incident that occurred on the Coles fireground yesterday.
