COONALPYN SCRUB FIRE CAUSES SMOKE NEAR THE CARCUMA CONSERVATION PARK

ISSUED FOR COONALPYN

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) advises people near Coonalpyn in the Upper South East that smoke is visible in the area.

The cause of the smoke is a fire that is burning in scrub land, near the Carcuma Conservation Park, north east of Coonalpyn. This fire will continue to produce smoke for the next few days.

CFS resources supported by farm fire units will remain working on scene for the next few days to extinguish the fire. There is presently heavy machinery working on containment lines with an intention to protect the conservation park and neighbouring properties.

To ensure the safety of emergency service personnel working along roadsides around the fire ground, road users are reminded that the speed limit is 25 kmh when passing emergency vehicles with flashing lights operating.

As a precaution residents in the area who suffer from respiratory or cardiac conditions may wish to consider closing all doors and windows and remaining indoors.
