Incident Update - Cudlee Creek Fire

Although there is still some activity in the north western section of the fire near Cudlee Creek, fire activity has continued to moderated throughout this evening, there is still some areas within the fireground of active fire. There are also large areas of unburnt vegetation with a potential to cause flare-ups.

The size of the fire is approximately 25,000ha with 127km of fire perimeter. Support agencies are working to assess damage and clear roads to allow people back into their properties when it is safe to do so.

Many of the roads have been reopened to local residents only, a list of roads closed to all traffic are below. Those persons wishing to return home are asked to provide identification at road blocks, this includes drivers licence, photo identification or rates notice. We remind everyone to take care, as there may be hazards on these roads.

If you are not a local resident please avoid the broader affected area to allow emergency services and support agencies to do their work safely.

The following roads have been closed to all traffic due to the continued risk associated with the fire ground;
Neudorf Road and Post Office Road Lenswood
Cudlee Creek Road and Mill Road Lobethal
Mill Road and Lobethal Road Lobethal
Stafford Road and Miller Road Lenswood
Coldstore Road and Fox Creek Road Cudlee Creek

Please be advised that road access is being continually reviewed and roads may close at short notice. Refer to www.traffic.sa.gov.au for the latest information.

We will also have ground crews undertaking a strategic burn in the Cudlee Creek Forest Reserve along Kangaroo Creek. Residents in the surrounding areas of Montecute, Lenswood, Cudlee Creek and Cherryville will see a smoke plume coming from the burn area, other locations may also see an increase in smoke activity.

This burn will commence at approximately 9:00am and will conclude mid to late afternoon. Residents are asked to remain vigilant and if they are experiencing an increase of smoke in their area to close all windows and doors and remain inside.

Power has been restored to the township areas of Lobethal and Woodside with work commencing on other areas.

Residents returning home need to be aware that the fire has caused extensive damage and a number of homes are known to have been damaged or destroyed. Residents are advised to be alert for dangers on the fire ground especially falling trees, burnt or unstable ground and fallen power lines.

Emergency Relief Centres have been established in the following locations: Highbury at the Turramurra Recreation Centre - 1000 Lower North East Road, Highbury and Mount Barker High School 2 Wellington Road, Mount Barker.

Relief Centres are providing accommodation and services to assist people who have been displaced. The Centres can also offer access to information and advice regarding insurance claims and access to emergency financial assistance.

Red Cross have a service that allows family and friends to Register, Find and Reunite with those that may be effected by this fire, if you wish to register visit www.register.redcross.org.au.
