Incident Update - Cudlee Creek fire

ISSUED FOR CUDLEE CREEK

A Watch and Act message is current for the Cudlee Creek fire.

The planned back burn undertaken today is going as planned however it is producing significant smoke and ash. Crews are strategically placed to manage the burn with the support of aircraft.

Road in the area from Castambul to Gumeracha are closed with SA Police in attendance at road blocks. People are reminded these road closures are for your safety. For road closure information go to www.traffic.sa.gov.au

Many of the roads in the other areas have been reopened to local residents only. Community members returning to townships are advised that they will need to show photo identification to demonstrate that they are local residents. Workers may also be allowed into some areas if they can show photo identification and have a legitimate reason for entering the area.

Drivers are advised to use extreme caution as there may be stock wandering across roads due to damaged fences and visibility may be reduced. Landowners are asked to secure stock. Speed restrictions will likely be in place in some areas.

If you are not a local resident please avoid the broader affected area to allow emergency services and support agencies to do their work safely and efficiently. SA Police are in attendance throughout the fire area.

Residents returning home are advised that there will be flare-ups and significant smoke in the fire area. If you see unattended fire call 000. People with health issues are advised not to return.

Emergency Relief Centres have been established in the following locations: Turramurra Recreation Centre - 1000 Lower North East Road, Highbury and Mount Barker High School - 2 Wellington Road, Mount Barker.
Relief Centres are providing services to assist people who have been displaced. The Centres can also offer access to information and advice regarding insurance claims and access to emergency financial assistance.
