Incident Update - Cudlee Creek fire

ISSUED FOR CUDLEE CREEK

A Watch and Act message is current for Cudlee Creek fire.

Suppression activities today have focused on responding to reports of active fire within the burnt area and in the Mt Beevor and Tungkillo areas, along with blacking out and patrolling. This work will continue overnight.

Weather conditions are currently favourable. Light winds are forecast for the next few days, gradually increasing to very hot and windy fire danger conditions by the weekend.

There are a significant number of trees still smouldering creating a risk of them falling. Residents and workers are asked to be cautious and avoid moving around any trees that have been damaged by fire.

There will be approximately 175 firefighters and 25 trucks on the fire ground over the next two days from CFS, National Parks & Wildlife Service and ForestrySA. These crews will be supported with much appreciation, by 20 fire fighting units from the Mid North.

Most roads have been reopened to local residents and people with legitimate reasons to be in the area, however roads may be closed at short notice due to safety hazards or to assist crews doing clearance work.

Drivers are advised to use extreme caution as there may be stock wandering across roads due to damaged fences and smoke may reduce visibility.

Landowners are asked to secure stock.

Speed restrictions will likely be in place in some areas. For the latest road closure information go to www.traffic.sa.gov.au

SA Police are in attendance throughout the fire area.

Residents returning home are advised that there will be flare-ups and significant smoke in the fire area. If you see unattended fire that is close to the fire edge or causing safety concerns to call 000. People with health issues are advised not to return due to the smoke impacts.

For concerns with livestock and wildlife requiring urgent medical attention contact Primary Industries and Regions or SA Veterinary Emergency Management on 1800 255 556.

SA Power Networks are still working in the area to restore power as soon as possible, however this does not account for damage to household infrastructure needing repairs/replacement.

Emergency Relief Centres have been established in the following locations: Turramurra Recreation Centre - 1000 Lower North East Road, Highbury and Mount Barker High School - 2 Wellington Road, Mount Barker.
