DE MOLE RIVER

Incident Update for De Mole fire, Kangaroo Island

Issued for De Mole River near Kangaroo Lane, Flinders Way and west of Snug Cove on Kangaroo Island's north-west coast.

25 CFS crew members on 6 trucks are working on blacking out the De Mole fire with the support of 4 CFS aircraft and crews from the Department of Environment and Water (DEW) and a private grader operator.

The fire has burnt approximately 160 hectares of rural grassland and scrub since it started last night fanned by strong wind gusts which pushed the fire front towards the coast.

Overnight CFS crews were able to save the Kangaroo Island Beach Houses from potential impact after the fire briefly broke containment lines.

The CFS and its partner agencies conducted some successful backburning operations and created a graded earth break to prevent further spread of the fire with today's winds.

Our crew will remain at the scene will into the evening and tomorrow to ensure the fire remains contained.

We ask residents, tourists and members of the public to avoid the fireground as there is still a risk to the local area.

This fire is not deemed suspicious.
