There is a Bushfire Advice Message in place for this fire
ISSUED FOR DUNCAN
The fire is approximately 56 kilometres west of Kingscote. It is estimated to be 18,000 hectares in size with a fire perimeter of 125km's.
Work is underway to secure the perimeter of the fire with a focus on the western, eastern and southern edges. While firefighting operations are being undertaken to secure the perimeter of the fireground there are areas that remain unsecure or have the potential to break containment lines.
More than 100 firefighters and 25 fire trucks (with over 15 fire trucks from the mainland) are operating on the fire ground.
Back burning operations may be undertaken, subjective to weather, to secure the fire edges. These operations may create an increase in smoke activity in the area.
Power has been isolated across the fire ground to ensure the safety of emergency service personnel working in the area. To ensure your safety, and that of firefighters and other emergency personnel, please do not enter the area unless necessary. Hazards may include reduced visibility due to smoke, fallen trees blocking roads and emergency service personnel working in the area.
Residents in the area are advised to remain vigilant and to continue checking and following their Bushfire Survival Plan.
Where fire is seen outside of the fire area please call 000.
