Incident Update for Calperum fire

Incident Update for Calperum fire (formerly known as Gluepot fire)

Issued for CALPERUM fire in the Riverland.

Following a series of lightning strikes across Gluepot, Calperum Station and Danggali Reserve, CFS and National Parks and Wildlife Services SA firefighters are continuing to work on a fire at Calperum.

The scrub fire is at Calperum Station, approximately 70km NW of Renmark.

CFS and National Parks and Wildlife Services SA firefighters will continue to work on the fireground for the next several days ahead of forecast fire weather on Monday 18 December 2023.

Heavy machinery has been utilised to establish control lines around the fire.

The fire is burning in remote Mallee scrub and currently does not pose any risk to the community.

Firefighters are working to control the fire to protect the natural habitat of the Black-eared Miner and Mallee Striated Grasswren, two endangered bird species which reside within the area.

National Parks and Wildlife Services SA has assessed the Natural Values within the fire area, in consultation with the landholder, to ensure methods used to control the fire take into consideration the impact on the environment.

The fire has not impacted on and is not affecting the Gluepot Reserve, Danggali Conservation Park or Chowilla Regional Reserve.
