Update on the fire at Gosse on Kangaroo Island

ISSUED FOR GOSSE

ISSUED FOR MOUNT TAYLOR ROAD, GOSSE, MOUNT STOCKDALE ROAD, SOUTH COAST ROAD AND VIVONNE BAY AREAS

The SA Country Fire Service advises that there is a Bushfire Advice message active for this fire. This warning message will be updated at 8.00 am on Saturday 8th of December or as the situation changes. This warning message has been issued for people in MOUNT TAYLOR ROAD, GOSSE, MOUNT STOCKDALE ROAD, SOUTH COAST ROAD AND VIVONNE BAY AREAS.

A Community Meeting has been set up for Saturday 8 December 2018 at 3 pm, at the Vivonne Bay Lodge, at the accommodation decking. Anyone wanting more information about the current fire status is encouraged to attend this free meeting as the road is now open to local traffic.

In relation to the fire activity, a wind change has impacted the fire-ground. Our main concern is the area around Mount Stockdale and the North West corner. Fire continues to burn in those areas in scrub.

The Gosse fire is still about 1300 hectares in size. Local and mainland CFS, Department of Environment and Water, Forestry firefighters and some Farm Fire Units are currently working on the fire-ground overnight, with aircraft on the Island on standby for tomorrow to support fire fighters if required.

Motorists are advised not to drive into the Gosse area unless necessary. For those wishing to drive across the Island, the Playford Highway is open and well away from current fire activity.

Smoke continues to be visible across parts of Kangaroo Island.
