Update on the fire at Gosse on Kangaroo Island

ISSUED FOR GOSSE

ISSUED FOR MOUNT TAYLOR ROAD, GOSSE, MOUNT STOCKDALE ROAD, SOUTH COAST ROAD AND VIVONNE BAY AREAS ON KANGAROO ISLAND

The SA Country Fire Service advises that there is a Bushfire Advice message active for this fire. This Bushfire Advice message will be updated at 9 am on Sunday 9th of December or as the situation changes. It has been issued for people in MOUNT TAYLOR ROAD, GOSSE, MOUNT STOCKDALE ROAD and SOUTH COAST ROAD area.

A Newsletter and a Public Information map, as well as other Bushfire Safety information, has been provided to members of the community who attended the Vivonne Bay Community Meeting.

In relation to the fire activity, some light rain has fallen on the fire-ground overnight. Our main concern is still the area around Mount Stockdale and the North West corner. Fire continues to burn slowly in those areas in scrub. The rain has made accessing parts of the fire-ground difficult.

The Gosse fire is still about 1300 hectares in size. Local and mainland CFS, Department of Environment and Water, Forestry firefighters and some Farm Fire Units remain on the fire-ground, with aircraft on the Island on standby for today, to support fire fighters if required.

Motorists are advised that the roads immediately around the fire are still closed but the South Coast Road has been re-opened to all traffic. For those wishing to use an alternate route to drive across the Island, the Playford Highway is open and situated well away from current fire activity.

For updates visit the CFS website (www.cfs.sa.gov.au) or phone the Bushfire Information Hotline on 1800 362 361.

This message will be updated as the situation changes or before: Dec 09 2018 09:00
