Incident Update
ISSUED FOR KALKA Fire
Current Situation
The CFS has been actively monitoring a large grass fire that started on Monday 19 September about 4:15pm. The fire is burning grass lands to the north east of the Kalka and Pipalyayjara communities. The fire has burnt approximately 24,000 hectares of land. The fire is currently burning along the Walytjataja track and the Kalka to Kalitjukara Tracks. The fire front has crossed the Northern Territory border. Bushfire NT are aware and are monitoring the situation.
The fire is not expected to impact on local communities. The CFS will continue to monitor the situation, with firefighters on the ground and by satellite.
Advice to people traveling
All roads are currently open. If traveling up to the NT from Kalka via the affected tracks, people need to proceed with caution and remain vigilant to changes in conditions.
