Incident Update

ISSUED FOR KALKA

Current Situation
The CFS has been actively monitoring a large grass fire that started on Monday 19 September about 4:15pm. The fire is burning grass lands to the north of the Kalka and Pipalyayjara communities in the far north west of South Australia. The fire has burnt approximately 30,000 hectares of land and is currently burning along the Northern Territory border.

The fire is not expected to impact on local communities on Thursday or Friday. A forecast change in weather conditions on Saturday has the fire predicted to burn under a northerly wind, which will push the fire in a southern direction towards the Gunbarrel Highway and Kalka community. The CFS will continue to monitor the situation, with firefighters on the ground and by satellite.

Advice to people travelling:
All roads are currently open. If travelling along the Gunbarrel Highyway from both Kalka and Pipalyayjara communities to the Western Australian border, travellers need to proceed with caution and remain vigilant to changes in conditions.
