Incident Update Kalka Grassfire
ISSUED FOR KALKA
Current Situation
The CFS has been actively monitoring a large grass fire that started on Monday 19 September. The fire is burning grass lands to the north of the Kalka and Pipalyatjara communities in the far north west of South Australia. The fire has burnt approximately 65,000 hectares of land in parts of South Australia, the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
There is no current fire front as this fire is now under the influence of a south westerly wind, pushing it towards the NT and onto burnt ground. These conditions are expected continue for several days.
Advice to people traveling:
All roads are currently open. Travellers need to proceed with caution and remain vigilant to changes in conditions if traveling along the Gunbarrel Highway from both Kalka and Pipalyatjara communities to the Western Australian border.
The CFS will continue to monitor the situation, with firefighters on the ground and by satellite.
