MELROSE

Melrose Grass Fire

At 4pm this afternoon a grass fire was ignited by lightning on a rocky ridge near Survey Road approximately 5km south of Melrose township in the southern Flinders Ranges.

There is currently no warning message out for this fire but anyone within the area should stay informed in case the situation changes.

The fire is burning in difficult to access terrain and is estimated to have burnt 4 hectares. CFS Firefighters are working to extinguish the fire with support from four water bombing aircraft and 2 observation aircraft. Crews are also being supported by the local Farm Fire Units.

Firefighters and expected to be working on this fire into the evening.

There continue to be thunderstorms producing lightning in the area. If you see an unattended fire please report it by calling 000.
