BUSHFIRE UPDATE FOR MONTACUTE FIRE
ISSUED FOR MONTACUTE IN THE MOUNT LOFTY RANGES
A scrub fire which started on Montacute Road at Montacute late last night continues to burn. The fire is burning in steep terrain which is making access for fire crews difficult.
Whilst the spread of the fire has been halted, the fire is not contained and there is significant work required, including extinguishing hot spots and strengthening of containment lines.
Fresh CFS crews have arrived on the fire ground and with assistance from DEW fire crews will continue with firefighting operations during the day. With the weather forecast for the following days the fire will continue to pose a risk to public safety.
The Heavy Helitak continues to operate to strengthen control lines by extinguishing hot spots in inaccessible terrain, the public need not be concerned as this does not mean an increase in fire activity.
Those residents that where door knocked last night and choose to leave can now return to their homes but should remain vigilant to changing fire conditions.
