ISSUED FOR Black Hill Conservation Park near MONTACUTE
The Country Fire Service (CFS) are currently undertaking burning operations along Gorge Road. The public is advised that there will be an increase in smoke within the area along with additional fire trucks in the area.
Yesterday the Country Fire Service (CFS) supported by the Department for Environment and Water (DEW) worked in extreme conditions fighting a scrub fire in the Black Hill Conservation Park. Firefighters supported by aircraft protected a significant number of assets and prevented fire spread. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The fire has burnt approximately 45 hectares between the boundaries of Gorge Rd, Main Ridge Track and Spur Track. There have been no reports of property damage. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries however both are recovering well.
Due to the forecasted warm weather, ground crews will continue monitoring the fireground and extinguishing any hot spots over the coming days. Crews will be supported by observation aircraft due to the steep and undulating terrain.
Whilst the threat is reduced for this incident, smoke may still be present and the community are reminded to take care in the area. Residents should remain vigilant.
The following road closures remain in place:
Gorge Road remains closed to the public between the intersections of Kirkevue Road and Corkscrew Road and is likely to remain closed for the next 24 hours.
Corkscrew Road is closed between Gorge Road and Montacute Road however it is expected that this will be reopened today.
The CFS are working with South Australia Police, the Department of Infrastructure and Transport and contractors to ensure safety of the public.
Emergency services may be working on and around roads in the area, and motorists are advised to take care and drive to the local conditions.
