ISSUED FOR Black Hill Conservation Park near MONTACUTE
On Saturday the CFS supported by the Department for Environment and Water (DEW) worked in extreme conditions fighting a scrub fire in the Black Hill Conservation Park. Firefighters supported by aircraft protected a significant number of assets and prevented fire spread. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Country Fire Service (CFS) undertook precautionary burning operations today along Gorge Road. This created an increase in smoke within the area along with additional fire trucks supported by additional firefighting aircraft.
The fire burnt approximately 45 hectares between the boundaries of Gorge Rd, Main Ridge Track and Spur Track. There have been no reports of property damage. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries however both are recovering well.
DEW will continue to monitor the fireground overnight extinguishing any hot spots.
Whilst the threat is reduced for this incident, smoke may still be present and the community are reminded to take care in the area. Residents should remain vigilant.
The following road closures remain in place:
Gorge Road remains closed to the public between the intersections of Kirkevue Road and Corkscrew Road and is likely to remain closed until Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) can inspect the road on Monday.
The CFS are working with South Australia Police, DIT and contractors to ensure safety of the public.
Corkscrew Road has now been reopened to the public.
