APY Lands (Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands)

ISSUED FOR the APY Lands (Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands) in the Northwest Pastoral Area

Over the last 36 hours there has been a significant amount of dry lightning pass through the North West Pastoral Area, predominantly within the APY Lands (Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands) causing multiple fires to ignite. The fire extends from the Western Australian border through to Pukatja (Ernabella).

A warning message has been issued. Refer to the CFS website cfs.sa.gov.au for the most up to date warning information.

Crews were alerted to the first fire at Nyapari at around 10:00 am on Wednesday 1st November 2023. The SA Country Fire Service have attended this incident and are continuing to monitor the situation.

Communities within the vicinity of the fires have fire breaks surrounding them and are being advised to stay within the prescribed bushfire safer places.

Members of the public travelling through the APY lands need to remain vigilant and enact their bushfire survival plans should the current situation change.

The SA CFS are currently monitoring these fires with support from the South Australian Police Service (SAPOL) and other agencies.
