Fire burns in pine plantation at Oakbank
ISSUED FOR OAKBANK
The Country Fire Service advises that a fire burning in a privately owned pine plantation at Peacock Road, Oakbank currently poses no threat to the community. Whilst the fire is generating a reasonable amount of smoke, it is dispersing relatively quickly, and combined with being in a rural area, is not of any concern.
The fire was first reported to the CFS at 2:30pm on Monday afternoon, and has burnt slowly through approximately 5ha of grass, pine needles and small plants, underneath the pine trees within the plantation.
Access to the fire within the plantation is very difficult, and the CFS plans to use a bulldozer on Thursday morning to create control lines which vehicles will then be able to travel along, to work to extinguish the fire. It is anticipated that crews will be working into the weekend in order to completely contain the fire, however will not be in attendance at all times or working at night.
