PARACOMBE FIRE
ISSUED FOR PARACOMBE, ATHELSTONE, CASTAMBUL AND MONTACUTE
.
CFS crews are currently responding to an uncontrolled fire on Gorge Road at Paracombe, and residents and commuters are advised that Gorge Road has been closed to all traffic
The fire is burning in very steep and inaccessible terrain in all directions within the Black Hill Conservation Park, in the vicinity of Main Ridge Track, Packers Track, Spur Track and Lodge Track. Crews are being required to work on foot in challenging conditions. Whilst the fire is currently only burning relatively slowly, weather conditions are constantly changing and the fire continues to have the potential to increase its intensity. An increase in wind speed from the WNW is expected from 11am, and this has the potential to push the fire deeper into the Park towards Corkscrew Road.
The Country Fire Service currently has 14 fire appliances on scene, supported by appliances and personnel from the Department for Environment and Water. Additional Crews are currently being arranged from across the Mount Lofty Ranges and Fleurieu Peninsula, and are expected to arrive on the fire ground mid morning.
A helicopter is currently being used to assess conditions from the air, and aerial firefighting operations have also commenced.
