PARACOMBE FIRE UPDATE
ISSUED FOR PARACOMBE, ATHELSTONE, CASTAMBUL AND MONTACUTE
CFS crews are currently attending to an uncontrolled fire on Gorge Road at Paracombe, and residents and commuters are advised that Gorge Road has been closed to all traffic. Whilst this fire has been named Paracombe, Paracombe residents are advised that this fire currently poses no threat to that area, and is currently located entirely within the Black Hill Conservation Park, which has been closed to the public.
The fire is burning in very steep and inaccessible terrain in all directions within the Black Hill Conservation Park, in the vicinity of Main Ridge Track, Packers Track, Spur Track and Lodge Track. Crews are being required to work on foot, in challenging conditions. Whilst the fire is currently only burning relatively slowly, weather conditions are constantly changing and the fire continues to have the potential to increase its intensity. Wind conditions have eased and the fire behavior has moderated.
The Country Fire Service currently has 10 fire appliances, 3 command vehicles and approximately 60 volunteer firefighters on scene, from across the Mount Lofty Ranges and Fleurieu Peninsula. These are being supported by appliances and personnel from the Department for Environment and Water. The State Emergency Service, SA Police and PIRSA (SAVEM) are also providing invaluable support to the CFS.
Aerial firefighting has ceased due to the reduction in fire activity but remain available if required.
