STAMFORD DRIVE FIRE
ISSUED FOR PORT LINCOLN
The CFS, in partnership with MFS and National Parks and Wildlife Service, are continuing to work on the Stamford Drive and the waste management facility fire in Port Lincoln on South Australia's Lower Eyre Peninsula.
Firefighters will be working throughout the evening/night to extinguish the hotspots within the fire ground. The fire started in scrublands south of Port Lincoln and has burned towards Proper Bay, which has impacted on structures and the local waste management facility.
CFS reports that 23 structures have been impacted -16 of those having been destroyed, however, several properties were saved due to the diligent and timely response by all emergency service personnel.
Currently potentially hazardous smoke continues to drift across the area and the community are still advised to limit movement. If at home keep all windows and doors closed.
The CFS and MFS have deployed crews from across the state to assist on the fireground and Incident Management Team.
Milder weather conditions forecasted for the next few days is expected to assist crews in extinguishing the fire. The waste management facility is expected to burn for several days.
