Incident Update
ISSUED FOR PUKATJA (Ernabella) Bush Fire
The SA Country Fire service is aware of a large grass fire burning in steep terrain 6km East of PUKATJA (Ernabella). The fire has been attended by CFS and is currently being monitored as its burning in inaccessible terrain in the vicinity of the Umpakanta Homeland. As of midday Thursday 16th of March, the current area burnt is approximately 3,500 hectares. The fire and smoke will be visible from the surrounding areas.
The fire is expected to burn over multiple days in various directions. The Ernabella community has sufficient fire breaks around the community to prevent the bushfire from impacting any infrastructure, but people should remain vigilant to any changes in conditions.
The Ernabella Airstrip is being impacted by smoke at times, pilots should factor in a second landing option if required. Umuwa Airstrip is located 10Nm to the South.
Warnings will be issued for any threatened homelands or roads in the path of the fire.
