Pukatja/Ernabella Bushfire

ISSUED FOR PUKATJA

The SA Country Fire service is aware of a large grass fire burning in steep terrain east of PUKATJA (Ernabella).

The fire is being monitored by CFS as it is burning in inaccessible terrain in the Musgrave Ranges near multiple homelands (Tjiwuru Bore and Black Hill 1, 2 and 3). As of 9am Saturday 18th of March, the current area burnt is approximately 15,400 hectares. The fire and smoke will be visible from the surrounding areas.

The fire is expected to burn over multiple days in various directions. The Ernabella community has sufficient fire breaks around the community to prevent the bushfire from impacting any infrastructure. These breaks have been strengthened by the use of a grader and back burning operations. People should remain vigilant to any changes in conditions.

The Ernabella Airstrip is no longer being impacted by smoke.

Warnings will be issued for any threatened homelands or roads in the path of the fire.
