Extreme Fire Danger Friday 3rd January 2020

ISSUED FOR RAVINE FIRE, WESTERN END KANGAROO ISLAND

A Bushfire Watch and Act Message is current for the Ravine fire on the western end of Kangaroo Island

IMPORTANT: CFS would like to advise the community that there is a real risk that the Ravine fire will break out, jump control lines and spread rapidly tomorrow Friday 3rd January 2020.

The Ravine fire remains uncontrolled and has now burnt 9996 hectares with a 56 km perimeter. Strategic back burning has been undertaken using aerial ignition in an effort to contain the fire in preparation for tomorrow's worsening fire conditions.

A total of 99 firefighters from across the CFS, DEW, MFS and Farm Fire Units, with 13 fire trucks, 3 bulk water carriers and 12 heavy machinery have been active across the fire ground today strengthening control lines, supported by the waterbombers and helitanks.

Friday's weather forecast includes very strong winds and dry, hot weather across the fireground. A fire burning under Extreme fire danger conditions will be fast moving, unpredictable and difficult for fire crews to control.

Properties near the fire ground are at most risk of outbreaks during Friday's Extreme Fire Danger weather. This includes the following localities:
