Extreme Fire Danger Friday 3rd January 2020

ISSUED FOR RAVINE FIRE, WESTERN END KANGAROO ISLAND

A Bushfire Watch and Act Message is current for the Ravine fire on the western end of Kangaroo Island

The CFS would like to advise the community that there is a real risk that the Ravine may break out, jump control lines and spread rapidly tomorrow, Friday 3rd January 2020.

CFS, DEW, MFS and Farm Fire Units have been active across the fire ground today strengthening control lines, supported by the waterbombing aircraft.

The Ravine fire remains uncontrolled and has now burnt 9996 hectares within a 60 km perimeter. Strategic back burning has been undertaken using aerial ignition in an effort to contain the fire in preparation for Friday's worsening fire conditions.

Friday's weather forecast includes very strong winds and dry, hot weather across the fireground. A fire burning under Extreme fire danger conditions will be fast moving, unpredictable and difficult for fire crews to control.

Properties near the fire ground are most at risk from of outbreaks during Friday's Extreme Fire Danger weather.

Prepare now to leave early. Extensive road closures are in place on the western end of Kangaroo Island. For updates on road closures visit www.traffic.sa.gov.au

To ensure community safety, Flinders Chase National Park has been closed until further notice, see https://www.parks.sa.gov.au/know-before-you-go/closures-and-alerts.

Put your Bushfire Survival Plan into action. Make sure you consider the safety of vulnerable people, the preparedness of properties and the location of livestock.
