Extreme Fire Danger Friday 3rd January 2020

ISSUED FOR THE RAVINE FIRE, ON THE WESTERN END KANGAROO ISLAND

An Emergency Warning Message is current for the Ravine fire, in and around the Flinders Chase National Park, on the western end of Kangaroo Island.

The CFS has also issued a Watch and Act Message for an extended area from the West to the Centre of Kangaroo Island near Parndana Conservation Park, Lathami Conservation Park and Seal Bay Conservation Park.

There is a real risk posed by this fire. This fire is burning out of control, having breached the control lines, and is spreading to the East and South.

A wind change is expected within the next few hours, and the community needs to be prepared that the fire may spread further to the North and East of its current location.

This is a dynamic fireground and conditions are continually changing.

CFS, DEW, MFS, KI Plantation Timbers Crews and Farm Fire Units have been active across the fire ground today. Ground crews have been supported by fire bombers throughout the day.

The Ravine fire remains uncontrolled and unpredictable in nature.

This evening's weather forecast includes very strong changing winds. A fire burning under Extreme Fire Danger conditions will be fast moving, unpredictable and difficult for fire crews to control.

If it is safe to leave, and a path is clear, please make your way to a Bushfire Safer Place at Kingscote or Penneshaw (www.cfs.sa.gov.au).

Properties near the fire ground are at most risk of outbreaks during today's Extreme Fire Danger weather.
