Incident Update Ravine Fire Kangaroo Island

ISSUED FOR THE RAVINE FIRE, ON THE WESTERN END OF KANGAROO ISLAND

The Ravine fire increased considerably during the day on Friday, January 3rd, due to high winds and high temperatures across Kangaroo Island.

CFS, MFS, DEW and fire suppression aircraft have been working extensively and will continue to work across the fireground over the coming days.

Fire activity and crews are still present west of Parndana, Vivonne Bay and Lathami Conservation Park.

Fire in the western area remains active with a Watch and Act Message currently in place. The conditions on the fireground have eased however there is still a threat to public safety.

A Bushfire Advice Message has been issued for the Eastern side of Kangaroo Island and includes the townships of Kingscote, Penneshaw, Emu Bay and American River to ensure the public is aware that the fire in the western areas is uncontrolled.

Extensive road closures are in place to allow crews to move across the fireground and to ensure safety of the public. People are asked to avoid these areas as a significant threat remains across the fireground. Animals and wildlife injured by the fires will be moving around these areas and caution should be taken. Light rain has fallen across the island and roads may be slippery. For information on road closures visit www.traffic.sa.gov.au.

A 24-hour relief centre has been established at the Kingscote Football Club, Centenary Avenue, Kingscote.

It is important for the community to stay alert and monitor conditions. Put your Bushfire Survival Plan into action. Make sure you consider the safety of vulnerable people, the preparedness of properties and the location of livestock.
