Incident Update for Ravine Fire on Kangaroo Island
ISSUED FOR RAVINE
There are 68 firefighting personnel and 25 vehicles working on the fire ground today.
The forecast for later in the week includes some increased temperatures and the potential for rain. The more favourable weather over the last few days has allowed fire fighters to make good progress in identifying and extinguishing hot spots. They will continue to work on strengthening containment lines ahead of the forecast increased temperatures.
Ground crews have been working to assess and rectify damage to roads and infrastructure. Access for residents has been restored for many areas of the island. Many of the ground crews are having a break over the long weekend, while local SES and fire crews available for emergency response should that be required. The main arterial roads of Playford Highway, West End Highway and South Coast Rd are open. There is a potential of injury from falling trees in other areas. Local Government, SA Police and other agencies have prioritised opening roads as soon as it safe to do so. For the latest road access information please visit www.traffic.sa.gov.au
The Conservation Parks listed below are open:
- Baudin Conservation Park
- Lashmar Conservation Park
- Cape Gantheaume Conservation Park & Wilderness
- Seal Bay Conservation Park
- Visitor Centre at Cape Willoughby Conservation Park
There is no public access to Flinders Chase National Park and Kelly Hill Caves until further notice. The extent of damage to park infrastructure is still to be properly assessed and it is unsafe for the any members of the public to be in these areas. National Parks and Wildlife SA crews are preparing to rectify the damage so that all parks can be opened to the public as soon as possible.

CFS continues to move fire fighting resources to and from the island. There will continue to be significant fire appliances and support vehicles through out the fire ground and at the staging area.
SA Power Networks are continuing work on repairing lines to restore power.
Moisture can cause electrical insulators, damaged by the fire, to crack and so power outages may occur as these are identified and fixed.
