Important Community Information For Kangroo island Residents in the Ravine Bushfire Area

ISSUED FOR RAVINE

A Watch and Act Message is current for the Ravine fires.

These fires are East of Ravine Road and West of Snug Cove Road.

Both scrub and grass fires have now crossed Cape Borda Road and are burning in a Northerly direction towards the coast between Cape Torrens and Cape Forbin.

The following roads are currently under threat:

Cape Borda Road
Jump Off Road
Shackle Road
Snug Cove Road
Three Creek Lane
Torrens Lane
Investigator Way
Kangaroo Lane.

Be aware that there are two fires burning on the North Western coast of Kangaroo Island - known as the Ravine fires.

There are three other fires on Kangaroo Island that have been contained, these are the Duncan fire, Menzies fire and the Mt Taylor fire.

CFS asks all community members to remain vigilant as the situation is changing rapidly. Put your Bushfire Survival Plan into action.

Watch out for embers, hot spots and flare ups in and around the fire ground. On high risk days, leaving early is the safest option.

The townships of Kingscote and Penneshaw are designated Bushfire Safer Places. Remember that a vehicle is one of the worst places to seek shelter in a fire.

Do not enter the fire affected area unless necessary, these areas may not be safe. Hazards may include extreme radiant heat, reduced visibility due to smoke, fallen trees blocking roads, damaged road signage and emergency service personnel working in the area.

Roads north of the Playford Highway and west of Stokes Bay Road in the fire area are closed. Entry into all National Parks are closed.

Flinders Chase National Park and Ravine des Casoars Wilderness Area roads are closed at the following intersections:

West End Highway
Church Road at South Coast Road
Playford Highway at Gosse Ritchie Road

Road conditions are being continually reviewed and may be closed at short notice. Refer to www.traffic.sa.gov.au for the latest information.
