Today there are 68 firefighting personnel, with 30 vehicles working on the fireground, supported by other agencies.
The forecast for Kangaroo Island today, Friday 31st January, is warm to hot with high humidity. There is some and shower and thunderstorm activity forecast for mid-afternoon. North to northwesterly winds are expected during the afternoon and will swing southwesterly in the evening.
Crews are still extinguishing hot spots in the Blue Gum Hill, Cygnet River and Vivonne Bay area, they will continue to strengthen control lines, black out and manage areas of concern.
Ground crews and local government continue working to assess and rectify damage to roads and infrastructure. Access for residents has been restored for many areas of the island. The remaining access restrictions for residents are a priority for Local Government, SA Police and other agencies The main arterial roads of Playford Highway, West End Highway and South Coast Road are open. Visitor Centre at Cape Willoughby Conservation Park
The roads into Flinders Chase are closed to everyone except emergency services and critical services. There is no public access to Flinders Chase National Park and Kelly Hill Caves until further notice. The extent of damage to park infrastructure is still to be properly assessed and it is unsafe for the any members of the public to be in these areas. National Parks and Wildlife SA crews are preparing to rectify the damage so that all parks can be opened to the public as soon as possible. Seal Bay Conservation Park will also be closed on Friday 31 January 2020 until further notice.

SA Power Networks are continuing work on repairing lines to restore power.
Moisture can cause electrical insulators, damaged by the fire, to crack and so power outages may occur as these are identified and fixed.
