Almond Husk Fire

ISSUED FOR SWAN REACH

There is a fire burning in piles of almond husks at Swan Reach in the Murraylands, South Australia.

CFS crews are actively working to extinguish the fire.

Around 30 CFS firefighters are currently working on the fire ground along with heavy plant machinery.

CFS firefighters will continue to actively extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading further into other unburnt piles of almond husks. The fire is expected to continue burning throughout the evening.

The fire may be causing large amounts of smoke in the area, and members of the community are urged to take care, particularly while driving along the Stott Highway.

It is advised that residents living close to Swan Reach, who may have respiratory ailments, ensure that they close their windows and doors until the presence of smoke dissipates.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Emergency services may be working on and around roads in the area, and motorists are advised to be cautions.
