Incident Update - Taylorville Grassfire
ISSUED FOR TAYLORVILLE
The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) advises people in and around the area of Taylorville near Waikerie in the Riverland, that CFS resources continue to work to extinguish a grass fire that started earlier this afternoon.
Approximately 20 CFS firefighters and 6 trucks supported by local residents and their machinery have brought the fire under control and are now working to extinguish the fire. It is expected that crews will remain on scene late into the evening.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, fire investigators will be attending the scene to work to determine the cause of the fire.
CFS firefighters supported by residents have prevented the fire from spreading to a number of nearby houses and farm sheds.
The fire has however spread to a number of trees within inaccessible swamp land, along the rivers edge. These trees will continue to burn for a number of days and may occasionally produce some smoke and visible flames. These trees currently pose no threat to the community, and CFS resources supported by local residents will continue to monitor the scene for several days to ensure they do not pose a risk to the community.
