Maggea Road, Waikerie
Issued for WAIKERIE near the Riverland in South Australia.
The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) is continuing to work on a fire in Waikerie in the Riverland of South Australia.
The fire is at the Waste Transfer Station on Maggea Road, Waikerie.
Whilst CFS crews have made a substantial impact on the fire, 2 CFS trucks and approximately 8 CFS firefighters, supported by local heavy machinery will continue to work on the fire ground and will remain on the scene for today working to extinguish the fire.
The fire is not expected to break away from the Waste Transfer Station and pose any threat to the community.
The fire is causing a large amount of smoke in the area, and will continue to produce smoke for some time as the fire is being extinguished. Members of the community are urged to take care, particularly if driving.
As a precaution, residents in the area who suffer from respiratory or cardiac conditions may wish to consider closing all doors and windows and remaining indoors.
